Facebook testing in-app search

Facebook logoFacebook is reportedly testing a new in-app search engine, TechCrunch reports.

Before, you have to search a link on Google, copy its URL, and paste it with your status message. Now, you only have to search a link or keyword, click it and it will be included in your status.

“We’re piloting a new way to add a link that’s been shared on Facebook to your posts and comments,” a Facebook responde said through TechCrunch.

This feature is only available to limited users in the US but if this would roll out publicly, this would drive users away from Google in searching for a share-able link or article on Facebook.

People who are building presence on Facebook either buying Facebook likes or buying Facebook followers can also take advantage of this feature as sharing links on the social site is now easier.


Facebook debuts free video call

Today, Facebook rolled out an update to its Messenger app and introduced the video calling feature. This is Facebook’s jab to existing messaging apps like Microsoft’s Skype, Apple’s Facetime, and Google’s Hangouts.

In a report from TheVerge, video calling should help Messenger build on its considerable momentum. While Facebook doesn’t profit from the calls, they keep the company at the center of its user’s communication habits.

If Facebook Messenger video turns out to be good, it will likely appeal to enterprises.

Facebook to make Messenger a platform

Initial partners which include ESPN, JibJab, and Giphy will be available in today’s Messenger update.

Instead of adding this functionality directly to Messenger, which will make it cluttered and confusing, they are added as a separate companion apps.

Facebook also released an SDK that would help developers create tools for Messenger.

Facebook is also aiming to use Messenger to reinvent communication with businesses. Instead of emailing or calling a business, you can now contact them directly through Messenger.

For example, if you want to modify, track, or return your order to Everlane, you will be able to contact the business through Messenger.

Customer support will be permitted over Messenger through integration with ZenDesk. Businesses that already use live chat systems for customer support will be able to run over Messenger. Aside from that, businesses can deliver push notification through Messenger.

Having Facebook Chat or Google Talk integrated saves them the hassle of visiting another site just to check if their friends, colleagues, or co-workers left them a message.

This is ideal to marketers and business owners because while they are checking their email, they can talk with their colleagues on Facebook or on Google Talk without leaving Outlook.com. Mark Zuckerberg initiates free Internet access in Colombia

His latest venture? Bringing free Internet access to Columbia in coordination with local mobile provider Tigo and Internet.org

The mobile based application is targeted at low income and rural users in the country, bringing dozens of tools such as Wikipedia, weather sites, news — both domestic and international, health news, and of course, Facebook.

The Android based apps and service have already been introduced in 3 countries in Africa with much success.

The idea, according to Zuckerberg, is to help broaden worldwide connection through the Internet by means of the Internet.org organization.

“We’re going to look back a year from now and there will hopefully be a lot more countries that have programs like this,” Zuckerbeg said at a press conference January preceding the launch of the program.

Moves into less established areas like Columbia will likely help not only the spread of information and many forms of awareness, but will quite obviously have social impact as well.

Facebook has long been a part of Western culture, narrowing the gap between those previously so far apart. Artistic and business opportunity finds a healthy home on the platform by means of exposure for those who desire or require it.
